Three Plead Guilty to Mamaroneck Village Drug Deals
by Judy Silberstein
(January 4, 2007) Three area residents have pled guilty to assorted charges in a case involving drug sales in Mamaroneck Village. According to a January 4, 2007 release from the Westchester District Attorney’s office, police began investigating a year ago after Mamaroneck Village bicycle patrol officers interrupted a sale of marijuana by Eddie Brabham, 36, of Mount Vernon and Ellada Abramova, 36, of Mamaroneck to Mark Johnson, 36, also from Mamaroneck.
When Officer Ozzie Ramos “saw a drug deal going down,” on January 6, 2006, he and his partner, Officer Anthony LeDonne, stepped in, reported Lt. James Gaffney, Mamaroneck police spokesperson. The officers seized a total of 48 bags of cocaine and marijuana. They also found $3,800 in cash in Mr. Brabham’s possession.
Then in March, as part of an undercover investigation, police observed Mr. Brabham and Ms. Abramova, acting together, make two sales of cocaine in the Village of Mamaroneck. Mr. Brabham, on his own made three more cocaine sales in Mamaroneck. Some of the sales were recorded on videotape.
Also, in the course of the investigation, Mamaroneck Detective Richard Carroll learned that Mr. Brabham had heroin stored in a suitcase in a closet of his mother’s Mount Vernon residence. “And that’s where they found it,” said Lt. Gaffney, referring to results of a search by Detective Carroll along with the Mount Vernon Police and the Westchester DA’s office
The most serious charges filed were against Mr. Brabham, who pled guilty to one count of attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree and one count of criminal possession in the fourth degree, both class “C” felonies, and both relating to heroin trafficking in Mamaroneck Village. Mr. Brabham will be sentenced on March 8 and faces a maximum of 15 years in state prison on the top charge.
Ms. Abramova pled guilty to criminal possession in the seventh degree and perjury in the third degree, both class “A” misdemeanors. Ms. Abramavova is a Russian citizen here on a school visa, according to Mamaroneck police, but has not been attending school for over a year. She will be sentenced on March 1, 2007 and faces a maximum of one year in prison on the most serious charge.
In a related court appearance on December 14, Mr. Johnson, who lives at the same Mamaroneck Avenue address as Ms. Abramova, pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class “C” felony. He will be sentenced March 15 and could receive up to 15 years on the top charge.
"As a result of coordinated effort by the Westchestesr DA's office, the Mount Vernon police and officers of this department, we were able to bring this investigation to a successful conclusion," said Lt. Gaffney.
