MHS Future Biz Leaders Launch “Touchdown Catering”
by Toni Lloyd-Davies
(January 10, 2007) How hard is it to prepare for a Super
Bowl Party? How many people are out days before the “Big Game”
to shop for one of the greatest sporting events of the year? For those
of you who feel it is a complete hassle, you do not have to worry anymore.
Touchdown Catering, the latest American Enterprise Project for the Mamaroneck High School Future
Business Leaders of America (FBLA), is here to help.
The American Enterprise Project is an annual program and competition
that FBLA participates in every year. The challenge is to start your own
business and teach another group or club about how that business works.
For example, last year FBLA started a candy business in association with
the group Free the Children. (See: Future Business Leaders Help Fight Child Labor Cycle.) This year, all the members of the American
Enterprise Project have agreed to work with the group S.T.A.N.D. (Students
Taking Action Now Darfur).

“We believe it is a great cause, to help a nation in a struggle,”
said Isabelle Morse-Dias, corresponding secretary of the American Enterprise
Project and president of Mamaroneck’s FBLA chapter. “We want
to help as many people as we can through a project like this.”
The American Enterprise committee is led by Elias Everett, a vice president
of Mamaroneck’s chapter of FBLA. Twelve members and two advisers
are working with him. They meet weekly taking careful steps towards Game
Day. “Every member and adviser is completely dedicated to their
part of our project,” said Mr. Everett. “I feel we have made great
progress over the short amount of time we have been given to prepare for
the Big Game.
For the first time, FBLA has taken a new approach to this project by
beginning a food delivery service for Super Bowl Sunday known as “Touchdown
Catering.”
“We feel our business is special because we don’t
just prepare the food, we deliver it too,” said Matt Kanterman,
parliamentarian and chapter historian. “We want customers to feel
we are trying as hard as we can to satisfy them.”
Ads have been placed in local banks and other establishments in the Larchmont
and Mamaroneck area. A variety of sandwiches, chips, and dip are available.
“We plan on taking dozens of orders,” said Karen Everett,
co-advisor of the committee. “Hopefully we can raise a substantial
amount of money and help those in need in Darfur.”
