June 28 FOCUS: Basketball Camp

SCHOOLS OUT, BASKETBALL'S IN

 

(June 28, 2007) With school out for the summer, it was time for a week of basketball camp at Murray Avenue School. This was the second year for the Boys Tiger Basketball Camp run during the last week of June by Mamaroneck Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach Tyrone Carver.

The Village of Mamaroneck Rec Department runs its Youth Summer Basketball Program for girls and boys. The second session is on Saturdays from July 28 through August 18, with the beginners from 10-11:30 and the advanced group from 11:30 -1. ($50 for residents; $65 for others). More info, call the Rec Department at 777-7784.

The program caters to Larchmont and Mamaroneck boys from grades 5 through 9. Helping with the camp was Assistant Coach Trevor Dimmie, MHS grad Brian Haber and current players Taylor Mondshein and Julius Vainauskas.

“The purpose of the camp is for young kids to be able to come and learn the game of basketball - as well as have lots of fun,” said Coach Carver. It’s important for him to be able to build relationships with area youngsters.
