Schools Foundation Gala on May 17 Starts Online

by Jenny Moskowitz

(May 1, 2008) Web surfers have their own way of participating in the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation sixth annual gala and auction. They can show up in person at the event, which take place at the Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club on Saturday May 17th starting at 6:30 pm. And they can also start bidding immediately on auction items that are already cropping up online at CharityFolks.com.

The theme for the gala this year is “Imagine…” with a 70s theme. There will be dining, live and silent auctions, and dancing to the tunes of Turtle Park, a local favorite band.

The silent and live auction items include tickets to the Z100 Jingle Ball (already available for bidding online), a private wine-tasting party at The Wine Vault, and a variety of sporting tickets and memorabilia. Prospective vacationers can vie for a week at a Teton Village home in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, or a week’s stay “Under the Tuscan Sun” at a Sonoma vineyard villa, as well as a summertime getaway at the music-filled Quisisana resort in Maine. This will be Larchmont Tavern’s third year offering the chance to name your own sandwich. “Imagine…” seeing your name upon the legendary black board. Also at auction are chances to unlock “his” and “her” treasure boxes.

This year the Schools Foundation is trying something new for those who cannot join them at the gala. Anyone can bid for some of the top items online, through CharityFolks.com, a leading online marketplace for nonprofit fundraising. To participate in the auction, you first go to the registration page and get signed up. Then you go to the Schools Foundation's own page - CharityFolks.com/mamaroneck.

The Zootopia tickets - for the night of the gala - are already on the auction block. After May 13 there will many more items, including 4 box field seats for the Yankees, and tickets to Legally Blonde or Spring Awakening. The auction will continue through the website until May 27, 2008 to benefit the Schools Foundation.

“We have been planning a tremendous evening filled with entertainment and surprise all while supporting our Larchmont and Mamaroneck public schools,” said gala chair Sally Cantwell. “Each year, the generous guests who attend the gala fund more than half the grants we’re able to award for important programs throughout the school year,” added co-chair Becky Shapiro.

Invitations to the event have recently arrived in mailboxes. The gala benefit chairs recommend responding as soon as possible since this event often sells out. Click here for the invitation.
