LMC-TV To Honor LWV at Award Night, May 29
from LMC-TV
(May 8, 2008) The Larchmont-Mamaroneck League of Women
Voters (LWV) will receive the Mary Anne Sullivan Award For Overall Achievement
in Community Television at LMC-TV’s Nineteenth Annual Award Night
on Thursday, May 29 at 7 pm in Mamaroneck’s Emelin Theater.
The LWV was chosen for the honor because of its long-term
commitment to televising public affairs programs and local political candidate
forums. Since 1991, the League has produced at least 71 LMC-TV programs
of acute interest to the community, including 35 political debates and
numerous informational forums on issues ranging from U.S. immigration
policy to storm water relief planning.
Christie McEvoy-Derrico, president of the Larchmont-Mamaroneck League,
thanked LMC-TV on behalf of the entire board and herself, calling the
Mary Anne Sullivan Award “a great honor” and referring to
LMC-TV as “an important vehicle to help us interact with the community
and get our message out.”
In announcing the award, LMC-TV’s executive director, Erik Lewis,
noted that the League and LMC-TV are “kindred organizations in that
we both share the goal of enhancing democracy and we both serve the tri-municipal
community.”
The Mary Anne Sullivan Award, named for one of LMC-TV’s founding
members, has gone to other local organizations in prior years, including
the Hispanic Resource Center (2006), the Mamaroneck Historical Society
(2001), The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound (1999) and the French
Welcome Service of Larchmont (1992). Last year’s award went to New
York State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer.

The League’s award is only one part of a “star studded gala
affair” that features local celebrities, such as Town Supervisor
Valerie O’Keeffe, Larchmont Mayor Liz Feld, and Mamaroneck Mayor
Kathleen Savolt, who will be presenting a number of additional awards,
including ones for volunteer of the year, and best program or series in
a variety of categories.
Following the presentations, there will be wine and cheese. Both the
gala and the reception are free and open to the public.
