Kid Fest To Celebrate Redo of Children's Library: June 1

by Nancy Donovan

(May 15, 2008) You might not have seen construction trucks and crews at the
Larchmont Library Children’s Room yet, but plans for its renovation are in full
swing. To celebrate all of the changes ahead, the library is holding a Kid’s Fest on Sunday, June 1, from 11 am to 1:30 pm. Geared to families with children, the festival will take place in Constitution Park on Larchmont Avenue across from the library.

Alexander Stadler
Alexander Stadler will be reading and illustrating stories at Kid Fest.

Among the many special events planned is a visit by Larchmont native Alexander Stadler, author and illustrator of children’s books, including the Beverly Billingsly series. He will engage the children in an interactive presentation, eliciting their help to create a story. With easel, paper and markers at hand, Mr. Stadler will help the story come alive with his kid-friendly illustrations.

That’s only one of the many activities for children happening throughout the event. To carry on the longstanding tradition of storytelling, Anderson’s Book Shop and
Voracious Reader will sponsor two different opportunities for sitting and listening to stories. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Groove House Band of Larchmont’s Groove Performing Arts and music by Armelle. Children who like to dabble in art will be able to make their own bookmarks.

Longford’s is bringing free ice cream. There will also be opportunities to purchase
larch tree saplings, Children’s Room "eco bags" and book plates for new books to be added to the collection. New and gently used children’s books will also be for sale.

Those who have been taking part in the Read-A-Thon will turn in donations from their sponsors at the Kid’s Fest and receive recognition. (See: Read-A-Thon To Support Redo at Children's Library.) There will also be a chance to view drawings of the planned renovations to the Children’s Room.

If the weather requires an indoor venue, Kid’s Fest will move to the Village Center
directly behind the Larchmont Library.

Watch the Larchmont Library webpage, www.larchmontlibrary.org, for more
information and timing of events at Kid’s Fest. Come early for ice cream
and a celebration of reading and the new Larchmont Library Children’s Room.
