Generations Join in Tribute to Mamaroneck's War Dead
by Joanna May
| (June 5, 2008) Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, veterans, troops, local
politicians, marching bands and representatives of the police and
fire departments gathered in the Village of Mamaroneck on Friday,
May 30 to observe Memorial Day and commemorate those members of the
armed forces killed in war. |
 |

| The parade assembled at the Mamaroneck Avenue School and proceeded
down Mamaroneck Avenue through the Village, ending at the Honor Roll
on Prospect Avenue across from the American Legion building. Dr. Marvin
Henk of St. John’s Lutheran Church said a prayer for the troops;
politicians spoke; Kennedy Hill of Troop 1840 read “In Flanders
Field” and Madison May read “America's Answer.”

As the names of the local dead were called, Girl Scouts
and Cub Scouts planted flags in the ground to honor those who made the
ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The event concluded with a 21 gun
salute, a beautiful rendition of "Taps" and the singing of "America
the Beautiful" by local veteran Anthony Marsella.
Joanna May leads Mamaroneck Girl Scout Troop #1840 and #1825.
