Cancer Support Team Gala Celebrates 30th Anniversary
Robert & Sherry Wiener Honored

(June 18, 2008) The 30th anniversary gala of the Cancer Support Team,
held at the New York Botanical Garden on May 29th, honored Robert and
Sherry Wiener of Mamaroneck.
The Wieners received the Wald-Lee Vision Award, an award that was created
this year in honor of CST's founders, Arnold Wald, M.D. and Gayle Lee,
R.N.. It recognizes individuals who have achieved excellence in their
chosen field and who have demonstrated a concern for the community through
their personal or philanthropic endeavors.
Carla Volpe Porter of Larchmont was one of the co-chairs of the gala,
which was attended by nearly 350 people. The honorary chairs for the gala
were Carol and Felix Petrillo of Mamaroneck. Harriet Huber of Bronxville
received the Barbara Melamed Memorial Award.
Cancer Support Team (CST) is a licensed home care agency that provides
free nursing and supportive care services to Lower Westchester cancer
patients and their families. The organization serves over 400 people a
year. CST is unique as the only Westchester-based home care program providing
services free of charge and without regard to insurance coverage. It is
one of the few agencies that provides financial and transportation assistance.
Executive Director Judith Dobrof explained that the group “focuses
on people who are dealing with the daily challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
Our goal is to enhance the quality of their lives.”
CST gives assistance to both patients and the family members involved
in their care. Its comprehensive services include: care management, pain
and symptom control, counseling, advocacy, referral to community resources,
financial and transportation assistance and bereavement services.
