ELIZABETH (LILY) RODDEN SHERIDANElizabeth (Lily) Rodden Sheridan. Lily was born in Mohill, County Lietrim, Ireland on November 22, 1926 to Sarah Genley Rodden and William Rodden. She emigrated by herself to New York City in 1926 where she met her husband, William Henry Sheridan. Henry had emigrated separately from Killshandra, County Cavan, Ireland. She was the only member of her immediate family to come to the United States. The allure of New York City brought her here (although she didn't realize at first that Prohibition-era speakeasies were not selling coffee in those little cups). For most of her life in New York City, Lily resided in the Bronx where she was active at St. James Episcopal Church at Fordham. She moved to Mamaroneck in 1999. Over the years she maintained active contact by mail with three generations of family and friends in Ireland, Canada, England and New Zealand. Lily enjoyed reading (especially mystery stories), good company and a glass of blackberry brandy every day. Her gentle nature continued to the very end. She was blessed with good health for all of her life and with the terrific care by all the staff at Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle this past year. On her 100th and 101st birthdays, she received letters of recognition from President Mary McAleese of Ireland. Lily is survived by her son, William (Bill) Sheridan and his wife, Therese (Terry) Kelly Sheridan; her grandson, Douglas Sheridan and his wife, Jeanne (Schneider) and their daughters, Lauren and Kristin; and by her grandson, David Sheridan and his wife, Colleen (Draddy) and their daughter Mackenzie and son Jack. Visitation Tuesday, February 12 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME 767 E. Boston Post Rd. Mamaroneck. 914-698-5968. Funeral Service Wednesday, February 13 at 10 am at St. John's Lutheran Church followed by interment at Kensico Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Emergency Medical Service (EMS), 200 N. Barry Ave. Extension, Mamaroneck,NY 10543. |
