ELLEN ANN DAWSONEllen Ann Dawson (nee Knudsen) died February 11 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. She was 61. Ms. Dawson was born September 5, 1946 in The Bronx, NY to Marvin Knudsen and Theresa (nee Shea) Knudsen. She grew up in the Parkchester section of the Bronx, graduated from St. Helena's School, and studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. After marrying James J. Dawson in 1968, she gave birth to a son, James M. Dawson, in 1969. Her second marriage, to Francis (Frank) O'Brien, ended in the early 90s.Ellen moved to Larchmont, NY in 1976 and lived there until her death. Although she loved crossword puzzles, parties, trips to Key West, Jeopardy, books (favorite: Atlas Shrugged), and Bob Dylan, her primary passion was drawing. A lifelong artist, Ellen delighted friends and family with her signature posters, cards and caricatures. Ellen was a highly respected figure in the furniture industry. She worked for the Ryan Family (Bob, John, and Barbara Pilcher) at Smith & Watson for 43 years, eventually becoming Design Director. Ellen was also a member of the American Legion, where she enjoyed organizing and participating in various functions and activities. She is survived by her son, Jamie, her brother and sister-in-law, Vinnie and Kathy Knudsen, as well as a granddaughter, Willow, a nephew, Kevin, and two nieces, Allison and Jenna. Visitation will take place Thursday, February 14, at the Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
