EDWARD A. BROWN
Edward A. Brown, 77, a longtime resident of Larchmont, NY, passed away
at his home on December 30. Born in 1928 in Brooklyn, Ed attended
Brooklyn Prep and graduated from Cranwell Prep in Lenox, MA. He
continued his Jesuit education at Fordham University, graduating
Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Physics. He also earned the honor of
Distinguished Military Graduate of the Air Force ROTC program at Fordham,
awarding him a regular commission in the Air Force. During his eight
years in the service, Ed spent time as an Air Force instructor jet pilot
and as a nuclear physicist in Los Alamos.
Throughout his life Ed pursued higher education, earning a Masters in
Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico, a PhD in Math
from Ohio State, where he was a Fellow of the University, an MBA from
Iona College and was also a full professor at Mercy College and Long
Island University.
Sought after for his large-scale scientific project experience in the
military, Ed had a distinguished business career, which included 10
years at IBM where he spearheaded significant government projects,
including the development of what is now the National Oceanographic and
Atmosphere Administration (NOAA) and numerous unmanned satellite projects.
During this period Ed was asked by President Lyndon B. Johnson to be one
of the senior officers of the National Alliance of Businessmen, which
was chartered to promote minority participation in private enterprise.
After leaving IBM, Ed was a founding partner of several successful
enterprises including Greenwich Data Systems, which developed the Wizard
of Avis Rental Car System, Optelicom, a laser research firm based in
Washington, DC and in 1978, DB Systems Corp, a computer services company
specializing in college administration systems.
Ed was a loving husband and devoted family man. He leaves behind his
wife of 53 years, Eileen Corbett and six children; Eileen, Ed, Kevin
(Eileen), Ken (Linda), Ellen (Will) and James (Linda) along with twelve
grandchildren. Ed and his family were long time members of Westchester
County Club.
Friends may call Tuesday, January 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Fox
Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont. A Funeral Mass will be
celebrated at 10 am Wednesday, January 4 at Saints John and Paul Church,
Larchmont. Private interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westchester Foundation for
Autism, 12 Center Street, Pleasantville, NY 10570.
