Villa Maria Wins Little League Majors World Series
The Larchmont Mamaroneck Little League team of Villa Maria Pizza captured the 2010 Majors Division World Series in a thrilling win over New York Sports Club. Villa beat NYSC 9-6 on June 17 to win the three-game series, 2 games to 1.
NYSC had won the second game, 9-3, in eight heart-stopping innings, requiring the teams to play two extra innings as darkness set in. The two teams played so well over the entire series that they finished with exactly the same number of total runs, 15 scored over three games, but Villa was able to hold on to win the final game.
Villa finished the regular season with the best record in the Majors division: 14 games won, 3 lost.
It was led all season with great hitting and pitching from Billy Grossman, Marquez Jackson, and Kumar Nambiar. The team also received clutch pitching from Jeremy Harwin and Sachin Nambiar, timely hitting from Thomas Anderson and Miles Grossman, and overall great play from Connor Chapin, Ben Lanza, Isaak Meier, Ricky Obe, and Jason Ochs. The coaches were Eric Grossman and Anant Nambiar.
